Title : CMS ASC Curriculum: Laboratory & Radiology Services
Speaker : Sue Dill

Duration : 60 minutes

Webplay Recording Date : 8-12-2010
Webplay Price : $ 160 for two weeks viewing

Webinar Overview:

CMS issued Conditions for Coverage that every freestanding ambulatory surgery center (ASC) must meet if the ambulatory surgery center wants to get paid for Medicare and Medicaid patients. The standards apply to all patients treated in the ASC including worker comp and patients with commercial insurance. These standards became effective on May 18, 2009 and were revised December 30, 2009 and contained 167 pages and 267 tag numbers.

There is a section on lab and radiology services. Lack of substantial compliance with either of these sections can result in a condition-level deficiency. If the ASC performs lab services it must meet compliance with the lab requirements in this section. If the ASC uses radiological services as an integral part of the surgical procedures it performs, then it must meet the patient’s need and also comply with the hospital conditions of participation for radiological services. CMS choose to follow the exact standards for both ASCs and hospitals as far as radiological standards.

This program will also discuss the proposed changes regarding providing Medicare patients with a copy of their rights that includes the right to notify the QIO of any quality issues and this must be documented in the medical record. What must be provided in the written notice, including the address and email of the QIO will be covered.
